| About Us |
First Baptist Church is under construction.
We're literally a work in progress...building for God's glory. We're not building physical
facilities made of wood, steel, and brick. We're building people as we share the great news of
the gospel with the community of Harrisonville. We're building lives for God's glory, bringing
men, women, teens, and children into a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus
Christ. Everything we do at First Baptist Church is connected to this purpose. It's our
mission and reason for existence.
A disciple is an active learner who applies the truth of God's Word to his or her daily life.
Jesus said, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have
commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20a). We seek to make committed disciples of Jesus Christ
at First Baptist Church through our preaching, teaching, and serving. Every activity seeks to
encourage our members to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
As a congregation closely affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention and Southern
Baptist Convention, our statement of faith is summarized by the 2000 Baptist Faith and
Message. Genuine discipleship cannot occur apart from sound doctrine and practice
(Titus 2:1).
Building Families
Healthy, growing disciples have strong families that take seriously the lordship of Jesus
Christ. At First Baptist Church we seek to build families for God's glory by offering a variety
of "family friendly" ministries including Bible study for all ages on Sunday mornings,
children's church and AWANA, youth activities, and adult discipleship opportunities.
Building Community
The hectic pace of modern living makes it challenging for people to connect with one another.
At First Baptist Church, we seek to build truly meaningful relationships among our members
through our weekly Bible study and discipleship groups, weekly Wednesday night
church-wide dinners, special dinners and events, as well as our "First Friday" home
fellowship groups. Our music ministries also build community as we glorify God through
congregational worship.
We encourage you to participate in one or more of these activities in order to fellowship with
other believers in our congregation.
Building the Kingdom
Jesus often referred to the "kingdom of God" and the "kingdom of heaven" in his preaching
and teaching. On several occasions he told his disciples that "the kingdom" is near
(Matthew 4:17, 10:7; Mark. 1:15; Luke 10:9, 10:11, 21:31). We experience God's kingdom as we
focus on his priorities, do his work, and allow his Spirit to fill our lives.
At First Baptist Church we earnestly desire for God to use us to build his kingdom in our
lives, church, and community. We want to be a "kingdom-focused church" that is seeking
first God's kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33). This will give God the glory that is
due his name and do our part in building Christ's Church.
We would be delighted if God calls you to join us in "Building for His Glory." As we build
disciples, families, and community at First Baptist Church, God will use us to build his
kingdom...for his glory!
